Hushed whispers greeted your mind slowly as it drifted into consciousness. A small groan had left your lips as your heavy eyelids opened your eyes to the world, and the glow-in-the-dark star stickers in your room ceiling.

Except the fact that those weren’t anywhere to be seen. Your eyes finished popping open to find a dark violet tent about two meters above your head; the wooden headboard was nothing your remembered next to your shiny silver one, and the lilac covers felt heavier and fluffier than the ones of your bed.

Where in the world were you?

“You’re awake!” An excited voice chirped to your left; a woman with short, copper hair looked at you with clasped hands and a hopeful expression on her face. Her large blue eyes shone with kindness, and you could tell you had seen her face before.

Unable to pronounce a word, the woman, whose outfit was a simple black and white maid dress, smiled and brought a hand to your forehead.

“It seems you’re okay. We found you unconscious on the road, and so we asked for approval to let you stay here. Her Highness is very kind.”

Her Highness? Now you were starting to shake, eyes widening as plates, and mouth quivering in search of words. But the maid didn’t seem to notice as she continued with her explanation.

“You were wearing some strange clothes, and very revealing,” she frowned unapprovingly. “We decided to get you into a more appropriate nightgown, and Her Highness ordered me to let you some spare clothes of mine before your meeting.”

“Meeting?” You managed to gasp out, and she tilted her head in confusion.

“Do you have a place to belong? Of course you need to meet with the Princess, or she won’t be able to tell if you will be a good servant for the Lorule Royal Family.”

“Lorule…” She had to be kidding. Your heart beat quickly as you tried to piece the bits together. The last thing you remember was going to bed last night, how could have you magically appeared in another world? A fictional one, for that matter!

“Yes… Oh, how improper of me! I didn’t even introduce myself… My apologies. My name is Anju, lady. May I know yours, and maybe where you’re from?”

Still in awe while inspecting the room, you barely had noticed the woman speaking out; it took you a hesitant call from her and a gentle wave of her milky hand to snap into reality. If that is what you could call it.

“Slap me?” You voiced without thinking, staring into her eyes almost with piercing determination. You really needed physical confirmation that this wasn’t a dream. The maid flinched, her brows knitting together in confusion and probably wonder at your own sanity. You blushed as you slowly realized the insanity of your request. “O-Oh! I’m sorry, that was stupid of me! A-Anju, you said, is your name?”

She nodded carefully, although visibly relaxing. Anju… It had to be a coincidence. But you could remember the Majora’s Mask in Link’s house in A Link Between Worlds. Were you really in that game?

“I’m (Y/N),” you answered, pondering for a moment before continuing. “I really don’t know if I want to remember where I came from. I’m sorry.” Anju’s facial features softened as she nodded her head in an understanding fashion.

“Maybe you went through rough. I’m so very sorry.” Her apologetic voice was followed by a mere second of silence before she looked into your eyes. “We need you to get up. Her Highness must have been waiting for a time now. Can you sit up?”

Using your arms as leverage, you sat up and were quick to notice your Maiamai stuffed toy falling from your grasp.

“Is it yours?” You nodded, and Anju smiled in admiration. “It’s really cute, and I have never seen a toy made so well. I remember having seen these creatures around, but that was a long time ago.”

“How long exactly?” You asked as you flung your legs out of the bed, only to realize that the mattress was higher than what you had expected it to be. Anju hummed in thought while you got up and started to admire your lilac nightgown, which probably belonged to one of the female servants in the palace.

“Around seven years ago. When the Triforce was restored.” She smiled blissfully at the memory, and you couldn’t help your own; it must have been a very important event for the Lorulean people. “Ah, here are your clothes. I think they will fit you, but I can find another outfit if they don’t.” She muttered while handing you a nicely folded maid outfit, just like the one she was wearing.

How the hell do you put this on?

Sensing your troubled aura, Anju helped you to get into the long dress skirt and knot every ribbon of the corset before working on the buttons and many more silky white ribbons of the torso. You felt like you lacked air because of the tightness this undergarment provoked, but managed to stay still and on your feet.

“Follow me. Her Highness is waiting in the Throne Room.”

You remembered Lorule Castle as the last dungeon of the game, with burning lava, voids which destinations were probably mounds of corpses and, all in all, full of deadly traps. Nothing is further from reality.

Majestic purple silk banners decorated the stone walls of the castle, as well as the most beautiful bouquets you had ever seen hanging from the smooth surface, and dark green climbing plants clung to the ebony marble columns. The trip was much shorter than what you had thought; the castle should be a huge building, but you were soon kneeling in front of Princess Hilda, whose crimson stare made you feel both anxious and awestruck.

“Welcome to my palace, dear. I am Hilda, Princess of Lorule. Who might you be?” Her voice, authoritative and appeased, echoed within the wide room.

“(Y-Y/N), Your Highness!” You squealed out nervously. “I don’t know my current situation right now, but I feel highly grateful for your kind decision to let me rest here, Princess.” You said, slower this time. Hilda stayed thoughtful for a moment before solemnly waving her hand, dismissing your gratitude with a polite expression.

“An old acquaintance of mine brought you here and convinced me to let you stay for the night. You should thank him instead.” After a second of silence, a cheerful voice, muffled behind the thick walls of the room, sounded from the other side of the closed door; Hilda’s frown seemed to grow into a slightly delighted smile. “Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Let him in!”

The grand gates of the room opened slowly to reveal the form of a young man, clad in greyish tights, dark brown boots and an all-too-familiar tunic; it was just like Link’s, but in a deep purple color.

Also, this boy’s face features were identical to the blond hero’s, but his hair was anything but fair, instead a darker color, and his eyes, slightly narrower due to growing up, held the calm hue of a forest.

It didn’t take you long to figure out who this boy was, and you quickly found your bent knees trembling against the cold marble of the shiny floor.

“Ravio,” acknowledged Hilda, “I shall introduce you to our guest who you so graciously left under my maids’ care: (Y/N).” The way she introduced you to the man made you feel guilty and a little offended. However, Ravio, who was just kneeling down next to you under Hilda’s almost inquisitive glare, only flashed a huge smile to you while taking your hand into an excited handshake.

“Nice to meet you! I’m glad you’re feeling okay.” His closed-eyed smile, so gentle and sweet, brought a blush to your cheeks, and you muttered your thanks to him.

“She will be living here as one of my servants for the time being.” Hilda concluded, snapping you into a shocked confusion. Were you really accepted by the Princess into her palace? A complete stranger? It felt too surrealist. “Ravio, show her around the palace.” She commanded, sharply hitting the end of her scepter against the floor.

“As you wish, Your Highness.” Bowing his head, Ravio straightened up, dusting his tights before offering a hand out for you, as well as a joyful grin. “Shall we go?”

Hesitantly, you took the outstretched hand and nodded, straightening the skirt of your black dress and following the man as he guided you outside the now quiet room.

“Ravio…” He hummed in response to you timid call of his name; it felt strangely quiet in your mind, despite his happy babbling as he explained the places of the castle, as well as some random anecdote you would absent-mindedly chuckle to. “Do you work in the palace now?”

He became silent, and you almost feared you had said something bad. You were hoping he went back to his former life as a servant in palace, and it seemed as so; but even Hilda had referred to him as just an “acquaintance” earlier.

“Not anymore,” he answered, verifying your doubts. “I did something terrible some years ago, I betrayed the Princess. She ended up forgiving me, because everything went correctly, as it should had gone.” He paused, wearing a nostalgic smile in your direction. “But I don’t feel worthy of such honor anymore; not after running away like the coward I was.”

“What do you do for a living?” It was sad how he spoke so poorly of himself. You had felt that he really did what he should have done helping Link with his quest. Now that you think of it, your last question was rather unnecessary as you knew how much money he got from simply renting and selling his weapons to the poor Hyrulean hero. His smirk gave your guesses away even before he spoke.

“I live comfortably now in a house to the south. It was abandoned, but I managed to turn it into a very cozy home. I would like to take you there sometime, whenever you feel like it, of course.” He explained, smiling sheepishly, hope tinting his eyes as his ears perked up cutely at his own suggestion.

“Of course,” you giggled, “I’d love to, Ravio.”

His smile beamed bright at your enthusiastic response, and he turned back to introducing you to the walls of what you guessed was a very old palace. Another question then popped inside your mind: he had referred to himself as coward before, but the way he said it made you think that he didn’t deem himself as so anymore.

Deciding to keep quiet not to interrupt yet once again, you let the dark-haired man lead the way towards the courtyard.

Leaving your first impression of the world of Lorule to the side, you stared, agape, at the beautifully flourished greenness of the yard; the sun shone bright, contrary of the seemingly eternal mist that laced the air in the game. It smelt of freshly-mown grass, a hint of dampness reached your nostrils, and you could hear the gentle mutter of a not-so-distant waterfall; out of many in the dimension, there were some close to the majestic castle.

“It’s beautiful,” you breathed, and Ravio couldn’t help the knowing and proud smile on his face. “I never expected Lorule could reach such beauty.”

“Well, have you been living under a rock? Things have gone for better in these last seven years, you know? I was born to see darkness, but am grateful for being able to witness a landscape as pretty as this world’s counterpart’s. You might not know, and it’s a long story, but yep, Hyrule is a beautiful world I’ll never forget!”

Maybe he expected you to ask about this whole stuff of counterparts in confusion, but you didn’t, of course, and chose to ask instead:

“You cannot go back?” You knew the bracelet they used disintegrated, but maybe there was something similar? It would make you happy, in a way, but you knew it would also bring problems, eventually.

“I can’t. But that’s okay! I will keep that world, my memories of it and my new friends in my heart forever.” Ravio sounded melancholic, so you decided not to ask any further; however, he explained a bit more: “I wanted to become like the Hero of the other world, I must admit I was a little envious of his overwhelming courage…”

As he spoke, he led you towards a wooden gate to the left to the courtyard, saluting almost comically at the guards, who just shrugged at each other; you couldn’t help a low snicker to leave your lips.

“So I decided to train myself from time to time.” As he opened the door with a bit of effort given their size, you came to the conclusion that the room was, in fact, a sparring room. “I’ve improved over the years, even though I only come a few times every month.” He sighed. “But I know it isn’t the same to slice logs and real enemies; it’s a bit embarrassing, but I never really had the chance to defeat a monster.”

“It isn’t embarrassing,” you said, bringing his green eyes to bore into yours. “You shouldn’t force yourself to go further only because you think you’re not good enough; you’re you for just your own skills, and that’s more than enough, don’t you think?”

Ravio stared at you like a confused, yet amazed, child for a moment, before a big grin broke into his face.

“That’s very nice of you to say, (Y/N). What do you think is my forte?” He asked curiously, and for a moment, you were lost on what to say. The memories of the game and how he had managed to make enough money for the rest of his life.

“Whatever you ever do, I will try to be there to encourage, if you want.” He smiled, apparently satisfied with your answer. “But please, never ever go for business…” …not again.

Many weeks later, you started to get used to your new life in Lorule. Worries still wandered inside your head, about wanting to go back to your own world, but you couldn’t know how when you didn’t even know how you ended up inside a videogame world in the first place.

You had refused to tell Ravio or anyone about your origins, playing it off as not-so-good memories, which everyone seemed to understand. But you knew you would need help if you wanted to go back.

The concern didn’t make you less absentminded, and people started to notice your behavior; from time to time, you would stumble into a pillar while wandering aimlessly along the palace corridors, and as of now, you hadn’t broken a vase or any dishes. You tried to work hard and efficiently to avoid Hilda’s reprimands and, most likely, your expulsion from the place.

Although you had you admit you had daydreamed about living with Ravio more than once now. He had been behaving like a total sweetie when around you, more enthusiastic, yet somehow managing to show timid moves and hesitance in his words. You decided that his bashful behavior only added adorability to his whole persona.

The dark-haired Lorulean had been coming more often, almost every day. He would arrive into the palace early, which made you think that he could be kind of an early bird despite the usual lazy behavior he sported in the game.

You saw that he would happily greet everyone he found in his walk inside the palace: guards, maids, sometimes you even found him nodding at paintings, which made you laugh a little. And had he noticed… The fact had nearly made him jump and blush while waving sheepishly.

He did look more hesitant when it came to you, though. You didn’t want to misunderstand, and were too afraid to verify your doubts, but it almost felt as if Ravio was crushing on you. It didn’t feel completely right and real, but the thought had managed, more than once, to keep you even more time into dreamland.

“Let’s go to my house,” said Ravio one day. You tilted your head in confusion; he had never mentioned his house ever since you first met him, and it wasn’t as if you really thought about it. You were actually curious about what that ruinous house had become, but you never dared, or had bothered, to suggest your own visit, maybe out of politeness.

“Why do you want me to go there?” You asked while dusting a painting, too high for your liking and stature. “I have to clean here anyway,” you sighed, still trying to reach the top of the frame, yet in vain. “Dammit.”

Ravio quickly snatched the duster from your hands, childish grin lighting his features, and started patting the top of the painting of an unknown noble, with a little too much force, while giggling in victory.

“You can slack off for a…Ah!” He yelped as the heavy painting threatened to fall down, but you were quick to stabilize it while sending a half-hearted glare in the teenager’s direction.

“Okay, but don’t touch anything, good grief…” His cute little jump right there made your heart throb at his child-like behavior, but you thought it compensated your near death crushed by that boulder-heavy painting.

The house did definitely look a lot better than what you remembered; light flooded through the clean window, and not through the hole you remembered Link made with a bomb to access to the back of the house and open the chest.

There was a neatly-made bed in the right corner at the back, a small table with a couple or chairs in the center. Hanging on the wall to the right, where you remembered Majora’s Mask hung in Link’s house, was the purple rabbit hood, which hinted that he had no need to use it anymore.

“There was something with you when I found you.” Ravio said while walking up to you with your Maiamai stuffed toy. You couldn’t help a gentle smile as you accepted the toy that he was returning to you. “Sorry for not mentioning it before, but it was the reason why I wanted you to come…”

“I hadn’t remembered it, to be honest,” you admitted sheepishly. It was true that the hard work, your worries and daily life in the palace made it difficult to think about the toy.

“It’s okay, I guess everything is a bit difficult right now.” He paused, before flashing a seemingly usual bright smile. “I really enjoy having you around. It’s… more entertaining?”

“Glad you think so.” You returned the smile. “I’m really happy to have met you.” He blushed a little, before his cute long ears perked as an idea seemed to pop inside his head. “I also wanted to give you this!”

You stared as Ravio hopped his way to stand in front of his hood, carefully taking it away from the lilac-colored walls. The next second he was shyly reaching it out for you to take.

“For you. It accompanied me in my adventures years ago. It’s pretty dear to me, but could you take care of it?” Wordlessly, you nodded at him with hesitance in your actions, reaching to slowly put the hood over your head. It wasn’t as oversized as you thought it would be, but managed to cover your eyes as the buckteeth tapped the tip of your nose.

“I can’t see anything.” You giggled, but Ravio remained silent. You gulped as the floor beneath you flinched as he seemed to take a step closer to you, faces inching closer. “Ravio…?”

“You look so cute.” Even though you couldn’t see him, you knew he was so close, his breath hitting your cheek warmly. Suddenly, something warmer, softer and firmer than hot air pressed against your right cheek.

Ravio felt the skin under his oversensitive lips become even warmer. Pulling away, he slowly pulled the hood up to reveal your wide eyes, and cracked a small smile.

“I really like you… (Y/N)…” He muttered, sneaking his hand to cover yours. “It’s been so long since I felt the strong desire to protect someone.” He chuckled. “I’ve never deemed myself able to do it, but I want to try. Will you let me?”

Astonished, you weren’t able to answer right away. You could only squeeze his hand in what you hoped would hint him your response.

But as his hand slithered upwards to wrap around your wrist, you slowly noticed how the grip became tighter. You could only whimper in name in a warning as his hand clasped in an iron-grip…

And Ravio's part is here! Hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it!
As you might have guessed, it's very probable that I make an epilogue for these two one shots. But bear with me until I actually decide to start writing one, haha...
